Prof. N.P. Das

Expert Demographer

Having an experience of over 45 years with a doctorate degree in Statistic and additional qualification of PG diploma in Demography, Prof. N.P. Das retired from Population Research centre, M S University of Baroda, Vadodara, in 2007 as a Director. His expertise lies in Family Planning studies, Fertility and Sex Preferences, Reproductive health and has keen interest to projects of Mortality (Maternal and Infant) through using various statistical modelling as well as through sample surveys. He gained wide experience through his research activities by undertaking special studies on problems related to population and its planning and evaluation, at  the request of Govt. of India, Govt. of Gujarat, ICMR, Family Planning Foundation, Family Planning Association of India and donor agencies like Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, USAID, WHO, IDRC-Canada, Population Council, and UNICEF-Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. He took leadership in implementing the National Family Health Surveys( NFHS) and District Level Household Surveys( DLHS ) at the state level ( Gujarat and Maharashtra ) , such as ,NFHS 1 & 2 and DLHS-4, as well as recently NFHS-4 (2014-2016 ) to help in compilation of the national level reports from time to time.  Prior to PRC Baroda, he has worked with IIPS, Mumbai and served as Professional Associate (U.S.A) 1977 and Visiting Fellow (U.S.A.) 1999. He has handled more than 50 major projects, published over 60 publications in the national and international journals, prepared around 70 technical reports and/ or mimeographed; and attended over sixty seminars /conferences/technical workshops at the national and international level. He was also active with Vardaan consultants in shaping up the health and demographic projects.
